9332951 HO Railroad YMCA Bunkhouse
This building has so many uses that it's sure to become a landmark on your layout. It's based on a prototype railroad YMCA, but you'll have your own ideas for it. Along the railroad, it's a great division/shop headquarters or administration building at yards and large industries. In town, it's a classic bank, library, city hall or police station. The kit includes realistic decals for several uses so you can customize it to fit your scenes.
* Neat Addition to Yard & Terminal Scenes * American Prototype * Fits early 1900s to Present * Detailed Brick Work * Stone Trim * Use as Bank, Police Station, or City Hall too! * Decal Signs
Railroad YMCAs were a home away from home for many railroad workers. They were part of the Young Men's Christian Association, an international organization that promoted the spiritual and mental improvement of young, working men. Railroads financed or constructed these facilities as bunkhouses for train crews and workers living away from home while on the road. Railroad YMCAs offered clean dormitory facilities, eateries, libraries, entertainment, spiritual education and a wholesome environment for railroad employees. The Railroad YMCA kit is an early-1900s brick building typical of those that once housed railroad workers. They were usually convenient to the train station or other railroad facilities.
