EMD SD40-2 Diesel Locomotive - NORFOLK SOUTHERN #3430 - HO Scale. The SD40-2 was one of EMD's best-selling locomotives, with nearly 4,000 units delivered to more than 30 railroads between 1972 and 1989. Designed for a wide variety of mainline and industrial roles, they are powered by a 3,000HP 16-cylinder EMD 16-645-E3 Prime mover. One distinctive spotting feature, when compared against other similar EMD locomotives, is their longer than average end platforms.
