The H-34 was developed in the early 1950's when most large helicopters were still powered by radial engines. Originally developed for anti submarine warfare on naval vessels, it also saw wide use as a utility transport with the Army and Marines. A better H-34 in 1/48th scale has been long awaited. Thankfully, new comer Gallery Models does not disappoint. This is a truly amazing and well detailed kit. The moldings are crisp and nicely detailed. A full cabin interior is included with a very complete cockpit. The cabin walls are molded separately with photo etch for the seat webbing. The most exciting feature of this kit is the complete radial engine that can seen when the nose doors are poised open. This feature has never been seen on any H-34 kit before. Photo etch is also provided for the engine grills which will take some care to install. This release come with the late style landing gear and high stack exhaust. For the early style bent leg gear and low stack exhaust one should consider kit #64103. Gallery has released four versions of this kit so far with two more releases planned. Caracal models had produced two very nice decal sheets for this kit. Other features include rotor blades with proper sag and a tail that can be shown in the folded positions. Parts for the gunship version are included but not used. This is overall one of the most exciting helicopter kits released in a long time
